Biometric seaman identification document

Biometric Seaman Identity Document formally known as the SID is an Identification Document that contains the biometric details of the sesafarer.

A Seafarer's Identity Document (SID) is a  document that verifies the identity of a seafarer and allows them to  travel without a visa. SIDs are also known as Seaman's Books or Seaman's  Cards. 

Here are some benefits of an SID:    

  • Travel: SIDs allow seafarers to travel without a visa to join their ships and disembark in ports. 
  • Access to shore: SIDs allow seafarers to access shore leave, transfer, and transit. 
  • Security: SIDs enhance security in ports and borders.

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE BSID (SID)

  • You must be the citizen or resident of India.
  • You must be the holder of INDoS, Indian CDC and Indian Passport.

Your personal details in the master checker should be updated and well matched with the CDC and Passport Details.

It takes around 24 hours in the SID number generation after the biometrics.

The appointment for the SID are server generated and you can not get an early appointment. However, you can request the Principal Officer for an early appointment.

First apply for duplicate SID from the BSID portal, then pay the  duplicate fees charge at Bharatkosh. After that, send FIR Copy, Payment  receipt, CDC and passport copy along with hand written application  requesting for the issue of duplicate SID to the MMD Mumbai, Nav Bhawan  address.
